Passport & Visa recommendations

Whenever you travel to Cancun or any other Mexican destination you will be required to hold a tourist card (FMT form), which is issued free of charge. You can get one from airlines, Mexican Consulates, Mexican international airports and border crossing points. However, you may want to make sure to bring along your passport (at hand) at all times, because it is often required as an official foreign identification.

Note: Passport and visa requirements are subject to change without notice. Make sure that you have verified the entry requirements with your embassy or consulate.
For more specific information on visas to Mexico please refer to:

How to make a call

Top Hotels in Cancun have an available in-room telephone for local, national and international calls, however if you need to use the hotel phone service please be aware that:

  • Sometimes local calls are free of charge, but not always
  • National and International calls may have high costs
  • Toll-free (01-800) numbers may not be free when dialing from a hotel

In any case, ask your hotel desk clerk before dialing.

Mexico Public Phones only operate with pre-paid phone cards with the label “Tarjetas Ladatel”, that you can buy in c-stores, hotels and news kiosks.

“Tri Band” mobile phones may work using the GSM (Global System for Mobile) network in Mexico. Ask for information about the abroad service with your local cell phone provider.  Pre-paid cell phone kits can be purchased at good low prices, just be aware that roaming rates can be extremely high.
