All major airlines fly to the International Airport of Cancun. If your hotel doesn't provide shuttle service from the airport, take a private taxi. The ride to Cancun Hotel Zone should cost about US$45. ADO bus line offers transportation for less than US$4 to the bus station downtown every half hour. Taxi’s and ADO’s ticket booths should be located between the Custom exit and the main airport exit.
Asking bellboys for a taxi is a good option, although you shouldn’t have any problem on doing it yourself. Look for the green-stripped white cars and always set a fare before getting in. A taxi from the bus station to the hotel zone is about US$10 to US$25 depending on your hotel location.
Rental car companies have offices at Cancun airport and the Hotel Zone. Rates go from US$50 a day. To avoid unforeseen circumstances, make sure to have liability insurance coverage inside Mexican territory. Remember that in Mexico driving is on the right side of the road.
Cancun Hotel Zone is a two way 16-mile street known as Boulevard Kukulcan. Bus-stop areas are visibly designated all along the avenue. Bus drivers charge about 7 pesos a trip per person and do not accept American coins, only one-dollar bills. Routes R1, R2 and R15 go from downtown to Tulum Av. or Wall-Mart and back.
